Last of the "New" Pics

Here are the rest of the pics Longhorn took on the GoPro in February of '15.  Scroll down to the January 22 post to see them in the order taken.

2/24/15 (click pics to bigify)

Day 18 - 2/24 - We woke up to six inches of snow. Hiked in ankle-deep snow all day. Very tough climb out of Tellico gap up Wesser Bald. Didn't go to tower as we were in clouds and snow flurries meant no view. Took my first fall today, sliding a bit off the edge of the trail. Stayed at Wesser Bald shelter.

How the AT mirrors life:

2/23/15

Journal entry:

Day 17 - 2/23 - Bev picked us up early and we did some last minute shopping at Wal-Mart. She then drove us out to Winding Stair. Rocks and roots that were coated with ice last week were now clear and became our best source of traction as the AT had become a trough of ice in many places. Longhorn took some pics from the tower on Wayah Bald and then we stayed at the Wayah Bald shelter.

Even More February '15 Pics

As with all others, click on pic for enlargificationing.

First pic is from Mt. Albert.  It was February 19th, our 13th day on the trail.

We were struggling in cold, ice, wind, and snow as we ascended.  We'd hoped to take the bypass trail, but weren't sure where it was.  We decided that it was better to scramble on up rather than risk getting lost in those conditions.  Here's journal entry from that day:

Day 13 - 2/19 - More misery. Fuel barely working. Almost impossible to keep water bottles thawed. More dangerous hiking in ice and snow. We wanted to take bypass around Albert mountain but were not sure and couldn't afford to get lost. So, up and over we went. Throwing poles up past rocks and grabbing roots, trees, and more rocks to get up. Throw in ice and snow and we were lucky to avoid slips and falls. View was great but we were cold and hustled down. Made Long Branch shelter. One of the newer on trail. We saw no other hikers Was nice winds died down but temps plunged. Probably below zero.

New Old Pics

Longhorn recently downloaded pics and vids from his GoPro.  They were taken during February of '15.  Takes a while to put them onto the blog, so I'll just add a few at a time.
